About the Church at St. Louis
What We Believe...
KJV Bible
We believe that all scripture is given by God who has perfectly preserved His word for us. This word is the means by which we can know Jesus Christ. Satan attacked God's words in the garden, and he continues to attack them today with false bible versions which deceive men and cause them to stray from the truth.
(Psalms 12:6-7; 119:128; Proverbs 8:8-9; Jeremiah 6:16; II Timothy 3:16-17; II Peter 1:16-21)
Holy Living
We believe God's true children are called to live holy lives. God is holy, and we are to be holy. True Christians do not befriend the world or conform to its standards, but are transformed by the renewing of their minds. We teach, encourage, and strive to practice godly living.
(Romans 12:1-2; II Corinthians 7:1; James 4:4; I Peter 2:11; I John 2:15-17)
Predestinarian
We believe that, before the foundation of the world, God chose to save some of rebellious mankind for the praise of His glorious grace and to leave the rest under condemnation for the praise of His wrath and power. Jesus died for the elect, and His Spirit regenerates only them. God's sovereignty causes those He regenerates to hear the Gospel, and His grace enables them to heed it.
(John 6:37-39; Romans 8:29-39; 9:10-24; Ephesians 1:3-12; II Timothy 1:9-10)
Baptist
We are Baptist. The example was set by our Lord when He was baptized by John the Baptist. We only baptize believers and only by immersion as an accurate picture of our Lord's burial and resurrection, and an answer of a good conscience toward God.
(Matthew 3:13-17; Mark 16:16; John 3:23; Acts 2:38; Romans 6:3-5; I Peter 3:21)
Simple Services
We believe a time of worship should mirror the practices of the apostolic church. We see no evidence for including the inventions of men but rather seek to worship the Lord in spirit and in truth. We stress Bible preaching, prayer, singing with Psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, thanksgiving, the Lord's Supper, and fellowship. Our worship and fellowship times are family integrated.
(Acts 2:42-47; I Corinthians 11:1-2; Ephesians 5:18-21; II Timothy 4:1-4; Hebrews 10:23-25)
Plain Preaching
We believe that God gifts men to preach the word for the perfecting of His saints and the edifying of the body. We exalt detailed teaching of God's Word rather than shallow, fruitless messages. We believe every word of God and desire to hear it taught boldly and comprehensively.
(Nehemiah 8:1-12; I Corinthians 2:1-5; I Timothy 4:13-15; II Timothy 3:16-17; 4:1-4)
We Also Believe...
- ... the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge, and is the source of all understanding of truth.
- ... the Holy Scriptures are perfect and thus serve as the final authority for all matters of life and eternity.
- ... the feelings, opinions, and traditions of men are inherently worthless and deceitful.
- ... the rejection of God in our secular-humanistic institutions has aided in the elimination of Biblical truth from our culture.
- ... only men who are born again, or regenerated, by the Spirit of God are able to see the truth of His word and apply it.
- ... His word is to be studied diligently, according to its own internal rules of interpretation.
- ...God's truth should be declared boldly and plainly on all matters without compromise or apology.
