Amazon Print Reads:

This 1828 facsimile reprint of the first American Dictionary documents the quality of Biblical education which raised up American statesmen capable of forming our Constitutional Republic.

Webster traced roots in twenty-six languages, and gives examples from classical literature and the Bible. Comprehensive introductions are presented for language and grammar.

It has been described by one Christian scholar as “the greatest reprint of the twentieth century.”

The added biography by Rosalie Slater, “Noah Webster, Founding Father of American Scholarship and Education,” describes his contribution to many fields and records his conversion to Christ.

This is by far one of the most important study aides that I have in studying the Word of God. I bought mine about 32 years ago, and still use it today. Let me explain why.

A good Brother in the Lord and I were having a difference of opinion about a biblical topic. For about 3 months my friend and I went back and forth about the theological points to support our opinions and views.

Neither one of us would budge as we were solidly convicted upon our views.

Then one day, a brother in the church needed some money and asked if I would be interested in buying this dictionary.

I was intrigued with it, having never seen one before. So I paid him for the dictionary and took it home.

Being curious, I started looking at the definitions of some of the terminology that my friend and I had been discussing. To my amazement, I was right, but I was wrong on my terminology.

I took the dictionary with me and spoke with my friend. We had a word of prayer for God’s leading, then studied the Word of God together, using the dictionary for clarity and found we were both right, but both wrong.

We both came into agreement on the topic.

Since then, I have used this dictionary in my Sunday School classes, church classes and studies with individuals to bring clarity and agreement upon what something means.

Without a shadow of doubt, I recommend this dictionary to be part of every believers study material. We will reference it here on this site in our articles.

Brother Scott

I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior in march of 1984. I was in the Navy at this time. It became my greatest desire to draw closer to God. Since that day I have been led by God's Spirit and the scriptures to live a life of Holiness. Holiness is not a bunch of rules, but rather it is the conviction and desire that I am pleasing to God in my life. These convictions are then what set the boundaries of my conduct and actions in life.

About Noah Webster

Welcome

Within our society today, the term "Holiness" has simply become a general expression for a "Christian" life.

This "Christian" life is lived daily without much thought ever being given for what the word "Holy" really means.

Yet God commands us to be Holy, even as He is Holy.

He wants us to be Holy. He will make us Holy.

In order for this to happen, we all need to simply believe and obediently accept each word God has spoken.

It is our prayer that through the studying of the Word of God here, each one that reads these articles will come to the conviction that:

(1) We must be Holy

(2) There is Joy in being Holy

(3) There is great faith in living a Holy life.

Let's be what God has called us to be - Holy.

PRACTICAL HOLINESS, or more appropriately “PERSONAL HOLINESS” is where we walk our life as close to God as we are called by God to walk.  This applies first internally, then externally.

Here are a few observations that should be noted.

  • An individual’s internal holiness will affect their external lifestyle.
  • External holiness is worthless without an internal experience of holiness. We realize that Internal issues are more important than externals and ought to have the pre-eminence in our teaching.
  • The preeminence of internal holiness has never negated the importance of external holiness.
  • External Holiness is simply the manifestation of the inward experience.

This is why God instructs us to “Be ye holy; for I am holy.”
