I came to visit my new grandson today, and my son Isaac hands me a copy of Leading Like A King written by Brother David Webb.

When I looked at the fly-leaf, my first thought was “this should be interesting. However, once I started reading I did’t put the book down until I finished it.

The book looks like it is about leadership, and for the most part it is. Having a managerial background, I love these kinds of books, but they usually repeat what someone else has said.

What I liked about the book is that it isn’t a rehash of what everyone else has said. Instead this book is full of quotes, antodotes and personal insight that show the truth(s) that are being brought forward.

Leading Like A Lion is an easy read in about 2 to 4 hours. This book consists of 13 chapters packed into 104 pages. Here is an overview.

  • In chapter 1, the three characteristics of a lion are considered.
  • Chapter 2 deals with what it means to be a visioniary.
  • In chapter 3 points out the importance of leadership beginning with leading our children.
  • Chapter 4 looks at leading in how we look at problems we face in our lives and the importance of our response. It goes on to show that the response many times determines our destiny.
  • Chapter 5 is titled “Black Ice“. We need God to guide us during the “unexpected upheavals” that appear in life.
  • Chapter 6 gives us insight into something many fail in – that is scandals. How many problems and hurts could be avoided if we dealt with others failures properly.
  • Chapter 7 is all about the behavior of our children. How your children behave is a reflection of who you are and how we are as a leader.
  • Chapter 8 brings us back to the importance of the Blood of Jesus. My new born grandson and granddaughter are not just 2 new babies born into this world – the are special as they are related by blood. Our relationship with Christ is all because of the shed blood of Jesus.
  • In Chapter 9, the music that we listen to is discussed. My only comment is that this chapter is way to short.
  • Chapter 10 looks at standards and the need for them.
  • Chapter 11 deals with the issue of cell phone abuse. In actuality, the questions asked and points made in this chapter can be applied to many areas of our life.
  • Chapter 12 is a discussion about worship. This is another chapter that I would like to see more leadership in.
  • Chapter 13 is about “Who Are You Following”. The title may be misleading to some. This chapter looks at who we are associated with on social media. Where is our attention being given to?

Rev. Dwain Galiher has the following to say about Leading Like A Lion

The apostle Paul wrote to both Timothy and Titus instructing them in organizing and operating local churches. The two main requirements were Proper Leadership and Pure Doctrine. What was true then, is true now. Our churches must have pure doctrine directly from the Word Of God. They must also have proper leadership.

In reviewing this book, I do not want to give too much away as it is short. Therefore, let me state my view of the book.

In my library, I have books, besides my Bible, that I read once a year. These books are reread to remind me of important reminders of how to live my life. Others I read every other year, and some I read every three to four years.

In being transparent, I do know Bro. David Webb. My middle son attends the church that Bro. Webb pastors. This has no influence on my review or opinion of this book.

After reading Leading Like A Lion, I have to give this book a 5 star review.

Personally, I am placing this book beside my 12 to 18 month books that I reread. This would be next to A Tale Of Three Kings by Gene Edwards. (Review coming.)

I think something Rev. Shad McDonald said on the back cover is appropriate.

  • This book will inform you of your opposition. Face it!
  • This writer will instruct you of your Obligation. Find it!
  • Reading of this book will inspire you of your opportunity. Fulfill it!

From the eternal pages of truth he draws portraits of patriarchs, prophets and people who just like yourself who heard the call and answered the command!

    Brother Scott

I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior in march of 1984. I was in the Navy at this time. It became my greatest desire to draw closer to God. Since that day I have been led by God's Spirit and the scriptures to live a life of Holiness. Holiness is not a bunch of rules, but rather it is the conviction and desire that I am pleasing to God in my life. These convictions are then what set the boundaries of my conduct and actions in life.

    About David Webb

    Welcome

Within our society today, the term "Holiness" has simply become a general expression for a "Christian" life.

This "Christian" life is lived daily without much thought ever being given for what the word "Holy" really means.

Yet God commands us to be Holy, even as He is Holy.

He wants us to be Holy. He will make us Holy.

In order for this to happen, we all need to simply believe and obediently accept each word God has spoken.

It is our prayer that through the studying of the Word of God here, each one that reads these articles will come to the conviction that:

    (1) We must be Holy

    (2) There is Joy in being Holy

    (3) There is great faith in living a Holy life.

Let's be what God has called us to be - Holy.

PRACTICAL HOLINESS, or more appropriately “PERSONAL HOLINESS” is where we walk our life as close to God as we are called by God to walk.  This applies first internally, then externally.

Here are a few observations that should be noted.

    • An individual’s internal holiness will affect their external lifestyle.
    • External holiness is worthless without an internal experience of holiness. We realize that Internal issues are more important than externals and ought to have the pre-eminence in our teaching.
    • The preeminence of internal holiness has never negated the importance of external holiness.
    • External Holiness is simply the manifestation of the inward experience.

This is why God instructs us to “Be ye holy; for I am holy.”
