In light of our current economic and political situation found within our nation, the conversation a lady had with Benjamin Franklin comes to mind.
The United States Constitution had just been signed. This lady approaches Mr. Franklin and asked, “Well, Mr. Franklin, do we have a government?” His answer, “Yes if you can keep it.”
God gave us this great democracy by virtue of His Grace. This includes the sacrifices of our forefathers. It is therefore necessary for each successive generation of Americans to make the sacrifices necessary to maintain our democracy.
I ask this question – Why do we need to pray for America? We need to pray for America (1) God instructed us to and (2) It’s the answer God gives us for our situation.
Here is just one of many verses giving us the instruction to pray for our leaders.
Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you. Heb 13:7
Here is God’s answer with which He has made this promise to us.
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. II Chronicles 7:14
Sadly, our generation, including those in the Church, has become spiritually complacent and dependent upon the government for our everyday subsistence. The degree to which this is true has never before been experienced by this Country.
As a nation, we have virtually substituted God with Government. Just like the children of Israel with the golden calf in Exodus 32 .
The headlines today scream out about our forfeiture of each of our God-given freedoms. This has brought the encroachment of government even further and further into our everyday lives.
Sadly, the fault for this does not lie with our politicians, but rather at the door of the Christians in America as a whole. We have failed to continually lift up our Nation in prayer to Almighty God.
Where Are The Prayers for Our Nation?
Are we, as Christians, so spiritually dull and self-centered that we do not see the ever-increasing godlessness?
Are we, as a nation, so blind to the ever-increasing government control that pervades all areas of our society?
As a Christian, ask yourself this question:
How much time have I spent praying for “finances and things for myself” versus praying for “the Restoration of Righteousness in America?”
Let me proclaim this loudly!
God is still on the Throne.
There is absolutely no man, no political party, or any mass movement by man, that can ever alter, remove or circumvent God or His Ways in any manner whatsoever.
America’s destiny does not lie in our political or economic movements or programs.
America’s destiny lies in the Christians in America reaching out to God in repentance for our sins and imploring Him to heal our land. Read again II Chronicles 7:14.
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. II Chronicles 7:14
God’s ways have never changed. Nor will they ever change. Therefore, if righteousness does not prevail in our land, it will be our fault as the Body of Christ.
Do we want history to record that our generation of Christians in America ignored God and failed to plead to Him to heal our land? That is not heritage; rather, it is the abject failure of The Church
How Should We Pray?
God tells us in 1 Timothy 2:1-8 just how to pray for our nation.
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; (Whether we agree with the kings and all those in authority or not is immaterial, for when this Scripture was written cruel and spiritually ignorant despots ruled the entire world.) that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; 4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; 6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. 7 Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity. 8 I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. 1Ti 2:1-8
The above verses clearly instruct us that Christians are to pray for those in authority. This is regardless of whether we agree with them or not. If we will pray for them, Dos said He will hear our prayer and heal our land.
I shudder to think what our children’s world will be like if we as parents and grandparents fail to repent for our sins. We need to pray for those in authority and for righteousness to prevail in our land.
We may not understand how prayer causes healing. It is not yet ours to know. However, we do know that it is the truth for it is God’s Word. I am asking that each of you join with us in our daily prayer for our nation.
There is no room whatsoever for political answers or resolutions because politics is not the issue. The issue before us is this:
- Our sleeping Churchs have become more interested in form and business as usual than they are in bringing our nation into obedience to God’s Word.
- If we will return to God, He will hear our prayer and heal our land. There are no alternatives or substitutes. God Is The One And Only Answer.
- The church must fervently seek Him as we have never sought Him before. If we don’t, we must prepare ourselves and our children to suffer the extremely adverse consequences that will take place soon.
Let us “go and find God” as we never before have. Let’s touch His Face with prayers for those in authority as set forth in 2 Chronicles 7:14.
Only then will we be able to “keep” the Blessings that Mr. Franklin and millions of others have given their lives, fortunes and sacred honor to preserve, protect and defend on our behalf.
Our children will then call us “Blessed,” and not curse us.
The choice is yours; what is your answer?
Let us rise up together as the One True Church and pray in earnest for The United States of America as we never have before. Righteousness versus unrighteousness is the root issue we face, everything else is just fluff.
